Hey there TAL family,

I hope you and yours are healthy and doing well. It’s been a complicated start to the year with a ton going on, and I haven’t been able to put out as much content as I would have liked. But behind the scenes, I’ve been lucky enough to correspond with a a good number of listeners and fans over the past few months and am feeling a renewed commitment to building the best, most accessible, and enjoyable social science and anthropology podcast with you. We’ve talked about job prospects, how to market ourselves, hashed out ideas for theses and research, brainstormed media projects, and more. So I just wanted to say thanks for being there and being a part of the movement to take anthropology mainstream. I really (and I mean really) couldn’t do this with out you.

I’m really excited to share some upcoming events I’ll be speaking at, so if you’re in Austin or Salt Lake City this month, I’d love to say hi! Also we’ve got some really excellent and exciting conversations coming to the podcast soon. Stay tuned for dialogues on Bitcoin and the cryptocurrency revolution, Innovation in Digital Anthropology, Non-violent communication tactics and strategies, the power of memoirs, the surveillance state and more.

I can’t wait to share.

Do you get something out of TAL? Help us win a sponsorship! I applied for a Podcash sponsorship, and YOU can help tip the scales in our favor by writing a brief note, a Love Letter (their language 😉) about why you love TAL. (Between 50 and 280 characters, so basically a Tweet).

Drop TAL some love here!

Thanks so much for considering!

Special Invited Session for Rolling Stone and SHE Media

Panel: The New Decision-Makers

Sunday March 13, 11:00am-12:00pm CST

With more access to research and increasing demands for transparency, consumers are driving change at record speeds. In this panel, we talk to thought leaders about how consumers are wielding this power for good. They discuss the importance of facts, transparency, and technology in today’s world and how they should go together to serve humanity and not hamper it.

Panel: Business Anthropology and The Meaning Economy

Tuesday March 15, 10-11am CST

As the world grapples with digital pollution, polarization and distraction, people are hungry for connection. In short, we need to stay human. Anthropology can help brands evolve and thrive in our highly complex world by focusing on people’s lived experience in context and uncovering the often implicit rules that shape how and why trends and ideas matter. Audiences will takeaway how to understand customers more holistically, apply systems thinking ethically, and build more authentic relationships. We’ll explore how anthropology charts the future of brand identity through conscious consumerism, the push for greater transparency and sustainability, responsible tech and the ethics of shaping perception, and the intentionality and precision required in messaging, marketing and PR.

Society for Applied Anthropology (SfAA)

Panel: Creating Anthropological Value Beyond Scholarship

One of the biggest challenges social scientists face from a professional development standpoint is how to articulate their value. This roundtable brings together anthropologists working across industry in areas like leadership development, consulting, coaching, digital communication, and media to share stories of how they draw on anthropology to create value, impact businesses, build communities, empower customers and engage the public. Whether you’re a student, a mid-career professional or just curious, audience members will come away with a deeper understanding of diverse career paths and how to articulate the value of anthropology in business and for themselves.

Finally, do you have experience in social media or community management? I’m looking for some interested volunteers this Spring to expand TAL’s social media offerings and build more community engagement, including a more frequent newsletter with anthro insights and happenings from the community. If you want to know more, get in touch at thisanthrolife@gmail.com.

Ok, next time you hear from me there will be some new episodes for your ears!

Catch you soon.

warmly,

Adam
